Last summer, Morrison started a community garden. I do a lot of jogging and walking on the path along the park, and I always enjoy looking at everyone’s gardens. The other day I had the camera in the bike trailer and stopped by for a few shots on the way home from a bike ride.

I only photographed a small area of the garden. If you’d like to see it, it is located on the edge of French Creek Park on the south side of Morrison (along Rt. 78).

I stopped on the way home from a photo shoot the other day to snap a couple of shots of the covered bridge and a few things in that area.

Evan’s flower garden is looking quite beautiful! His excitement over these flowers is overruling his despair over the fact that the peppers just aren’t growing well.

We made peach pie this week using peaches from our very own peach tree. This is the first year we’ve had peaches on it. In fact, it’s so loaded that one of the branches broke off. I’m not sure if our lack in peaches in previous years was due to the youth of the tree or weather that just wasn’t quite right.

On the other hand, this is not the year of the apple, nor was last. I was thinking maybe the apple trees produced every other year, but once again we have just one measly apple! Other years, we’ve had hundreds. I have yet to figure out this fruit tree thing.

I bought 12 astilbe plants from Long’s Garden a couple of years ago, and I love them! I think I have 4 different varieties. They are thriving in our flower bed along the driveway, where it’s 1/2 shady and 1/2 sunny.

These are very old spirea bushes alongside the garage.

Cherries, which I need to pick tomorrow or Sunday. I guess it’s pie time!

It’s almost time to pick cherries! Every year we read the book A Pie in the Sky before we pick cherries, then we make a pie using the recipe at the back of the book. It’s a good recipe!

For some reason, only one of the four eggs hatched in the robins’ nest. We have been checking on this little guy daily. They grow so quickly!

My other favorite part of the zoo: the lorikeet house!

I think it’s their uniqueness and the way they walk with such poise and grace. Maybe it’s Melman.  I love giraffes!  We took a trip to Niabi Zoo this week, and I captured these shots of the giraffes. They found a rope and they were playing with it…until one of the zookeepers arrived and spoiled their fun.

A not-so-smart robin made a nest in my hanging basket. I about had a heart attack when I dumped in some water and a robin flew out!

I feel so fortunate to live so close to such a gorgeous park! Evan and I went hiking for a bit yesterday.

Some kids were there fishing on a school field trip. Evan sat and watched them for awhile.

And we hiked until I saw a snake cross the trail…then it was ALL OVER (for me…Evan wanted to get closer).

At least once yearly, we make the drive to Hornbaker Gardens in Princeton. It’s WELL worth the drive, as it’s the nicest landscape nursery we’ve been to. They specialize in perennials–especially hostas, daylilies, and irises, with hundreds of varieties of each! They have MANY other perennials, though. They do have a few annuals, and also trees, pottery and a lot of stone items. Everything you could want for your yard! Additionally, they have gorgeously landscaped display gardens. Even Evan loves going! I didn’t take any photos of their greenhouses, but I did snap a few shots of the display gardens:
