Three Kids on the Farm

September 17, 2009

This particular farm was way back in the lane and just amazingly beautiful. The photographic opportunities there were endless! Unfortuantely, so were the mosquitoes! Mosquitoes don’t usually like me very much, but I was even getting bit!

The oldest had his senior pictures taken while the family was on vacation in Missouri, but they wanted a few more with this old tractor and around his farm:

The beautiful middle sister:

And the youngest, who loved having her photographs taken most of all. I told her she should become a photographer! She was full of ideas for good spots and poses.
Her idea:

My idea:

And a few of them together:

To say it was hard to get these dogs to cooperate would be an understatement! They were SUPER nice dogs; they just didn’t want to sit! I have a soft spot for the little one, who reminds me so much of Bear, the dog we had when I grew up.

The three of us trekked to Scott County Park on Saturday for the Iowaman Triathlon. Of course, I was on hand to take photos. I’m sure you get tired of seeing pictures of my husband swim, bike, and run, so I’ll just share my very favorites.

Coming out of the first transition, heading out on the bike:

Meanwhile, Evan and I entertained ourselves with some hide & seek:

We love Kapla!

I love back-to-basic toys, and I feel fortunate that these types of toys are Evan’s favorites, too.  No matter how many electronic, gimmicky toys he receives, he always goes back to the same three types of things: construction/farm equipment, Legos, and blocks.  He will play with other toys from time to time, but 90% of his play with toys is related to one of these three things.  He has unit blocks at my mom’s house and he enjoys those, but at home, we have three boxes of Kapla Blocks.  He received his first set at Christmas last year from my two aunts, and he fell in love with those things right away.  Over the summer, he didn’t play with them much, but lately, he’s been getting them out again.  If you are local and are looking for these blocks, they sell them at the Discovery Center in Clinton, IA.  I have seen them at a couple of other children’s museums, too.  This weekend, we had some fun with them (and trashed our living room):

On Sunday, we made this:

this (and one other thing that got destroyed before the camera could make it there):

Evan spent a long time making a “dog park” around the building:
