Vibrant Rainbow

August 17, 2009

UNBELIEVABLE sight out our back door tonight:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rainbow quite that vibrant. I was in a hurry to get to a meeting, but had I not been in a rush, I would have driven somewhere more scenic to take the shot!

Over the weekend, we went to cheer on my husband as he competed in an Xterra (off-road) triathlon in Logansport, Indiana. The triathlon took place in France Park, an absolutely gorgeous hidden gem in the middle of the flatlands. Chris had a fabulous race and was able to win first overall and set a course record, despite a tough field. My shots of him racing are nothing to write home about, but here is one of him finishing up the run:

As a spectator, there is a lot of downtown both before and after the triathlon, so Evan and I did a bit of hiking. Here is my favorite shot from the several I took on our adventures. We actually watched the whole swim from up there. It was perfect! Like box seats at a triathlon. Except no drinks or arm rests.

And just to show you what amazing things some minor Photoshopping can do, here is the photo with some saturation and contrast added. For those of you with some basic Photoshop knowledge, I added an S-curve, some saturation, and a bit of contrast w/ the levels slider.

I was able to experience a new location for this session–Sinnissippi Park in Sterling, Illinois. It was beautiful! I have been there as a visitor, but not as a photographer. Miss J. is gorgeous, too. Here are a few of my favorite images.

This dock was NARROW! There were three of us squished on–me, Miss J., and Alex, and I can’t believe no one fell in. I breathed a sigh of relief when we stepped onto solid ground again. I think this is why I have both liability insurance and insurance on my equipment, haha! I think my insurance agent thought I was weird when I said I needed insurance on my equipment so that no matter WHAT I did, it was covered. Situations like these are exactly why I need it! I’m a huge klutz. However, the pictures we captured are well worth any risk we took!

And then up to a park bench with some beautiful backlighting where I finally convinced Miss J. to try a serious look (she’s very happy and smiley–this was hard for her!). Can we say HOLY SMOKES? She reminds me of Demi Moore a bit.

Next a small trek through some long grass for another backlit shot, this time in more direct sun:

Some beautiful light again up on the bridge:

Our next location was the bridge that I adore so much. I will never get tired of shooting here. It has become a favorite spot for senior pictures, and that’s fine by me!

Have a great senior year, Miss J.!
