When I take my greyhound for a walk, other greyhound owners will almost always come up to chat, whether or not they have their dog with them. Carrying my camera is the same way–people see that I have an SLR camera and if they are interested in photography, they will often chat with me about it. 90% of the time, our conversation includes them saying something like, “I have this nice camera with all of these buttons, but I have no idea what to do with it!”

My education is in teaching, and my passion for teaching is just as strong as my passion for photography. So, I thought I might just combine the two! I am thinking of offering a free workshop/seminar/whatever-you-want-to-call-it to show people how to use their SLR cameras. The focus of the workshop would be on how to set the camera to get the types of shots you want, how to have in-focus shots, and also how to use available light to get good images. I plan to blab at you for a bit  and then allow you to practice on some models. However, I may adjust that based on the knowledge of the attendees. At this point, I am going to limit the workshop to people who own an SLR camera. However, I do own two SLR cameras (a Canon 30D and a Canon 5D), and those will be available to the first two people who express interest in using those to learn during the workshop. If you own an extra SLR camera and would like to share it with someone just during the workshop, let me know!

Please note that this workshop is designed for people who are just learning to use their cameras. If you are already comfortable shooting in manual mode, you probably won’t learn much. Heck, I can’t guarantee that ANYONE will learn, but hanging out with a few other people who are as passionate about photography as I am sounds like a pretty fun couple of hours to me!

If you are interested, please click this link: Workshop Interest Survey. It is NOT a quiz to see if you’re qualified. It is just a few simple questions to give me an idea of where the participants of the workshop stand in their photography knowledge so I know which direction(s) to take!
