An Easter Day Portrait

April 16, 2009

What was up with the weather this Easter? Brrrr! Sometimes I seriously wonder why we live in Illinois. NORTHERN Illinois, no less! My mother-in-law mentioned wanting a family portrait, but it seems we are not all together during nice weather. So, this Easter, even though it really wasn’t that nice, everyone humored me for a few minutes so we could get a family portrait. I know that most people want lush vegetation or fall colors for their family photos, but I LOVE the way the trees are created a muted backdrop here. It really makes us stand out! Doesn’t my husband have a stunning family? You see, I thoroughly investigated the gene pool before I married him! :)

You’d think that as an native northern Illinoisan I’d be bored of fields and farms, but the opposite is true–I really can’t get enough of them! I a farm girl that has been misplaced to the urban life, and I really miss it. If I know that a client of mine owns a farm, I always suggest doing the portraits there. They offer an amazing variety of scenery and a look that can’t be duplicated anywhere else…certainly not in a studio!

Three adult sisters returned home to the family farm for this portrait session, and the location could not have been any more perfect. I love the mix of trees, fields, buildings, cows…it’s nature at it’s finest! Despite the cold temperatures and the WIND! we had a good time and captured some shots of this family, who obviously enjoyed their time together very much. They made things fun by bringing out an antique tractor. Set in one of their pastures with some pine trees behind and just a smidge of one of the barns, it made the perfect setting for their family portraits.

And the sisters and their individual families:

A couple more of the kids, because I’m partial to kids!
