Sledding

January 18, 2009

This weekend, I tried out a lens that I’ve had for awhile but haven’t used much yet, the Canon 70-200 f/4.0L. I bought this lens originally to use for Chris’s triathlons, as I wanted a 200mm lens, but couldn’t justify the more expensive Canon 70-200 f/2.8L (although I’d like to eventually own this lens for my portrait work).  Because I have not been to many of Chris’s races since buying the lens, and because I haven’t deemed the lens worthy of portraiture, I haven’t really used it much at all.  Sledding this weekend with family was the perfect opportunity to give the lens a try, and I have to say I was very impressed with it! My photos sharp and the color and contrast looked great, too!  I did nothing to these images in Photoshop other than adding the border and resizing.  I did a few minor adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw, but that was it. Here are my favorites of the cousins enjoying their sledding!

  3. [...] I have a gently used Canon 70-200 f/4.0L lens. I LOVED this lens…it is super sharp and I had great fun with it. The only reason I’m selling is because I recently upgraded to the f/2.8 version…I honestly cannot say that the 2.8 is all that much better, if any, though! The 2.8 is soooo heavy, whereas the 4.0 is super light! It’s a fabulous lens. Here’s a link to a blog post in which I used the 70-200 f/4.0: Sledding Post. [...]
