R & A – “Just Because” portraits at Rockwood State Park
September 29, 2008A family portrait session, and advice on how to dress for your family own family picture
September 25, 2008First of all, I have to say that I love how this family dressed for their portraits! People are always asking me how they should dress, and while the white or black shirts with jeans is a common classic look, it is not the only option. It can be more interesting when everyone is not dressed the same, and this family did a really nice job of dressing so they coordinated well. Here are some of the things they did right: 1) dressed in colors that were different, but that would look good if worn together on one person’s outfit 2) all dressed in the same “level” of dress–meaning all of the outfits are equally casual 3) the mom & her daughter are wearing the same style of shirt–long, high-waist, short sleeves (this looks better than some w/ a tank and some not), 4) dad is the only one wearing any type of stripe or pattern (one person can wear stripes or a pattern, but if two do they may compete 5) the dad and the little boy are both wearing brown, but different shades 6) these colors would look good on most walls and in most rooms (keep in mind family portraits are usually hung in rooms as art–they should coordinate with a room in the same way that other artwork would). I am not saying that none of my clients have dressed well–they all certainly have! However, I’ve been meaning to write this post for awhile, as it’s one of my most commonly asked questions.
Anyhow, on to the gorgeous family! They don’t live here now, but they are both originally from Morrison, so you may recognize them!

Update
September 24, 2008I apologize for being so behind in blogging! I’ll try to catch up and include all of my recent sessions soon. Here is one from last weekend–a gorgeous family at the bridge. It was fun to go to the bridge again! How CUTE is that little guy in front??

I was supposed to be taking primarily family portraits, but I’m always drawn to the kids!
